Selection Process Explained
The RRB NTPC selection process is a multi-stage examination designed to test a candidate’s aptitude and skills thoroughly.
1st Stage: Computer Based Test (CBT)
This is a common screening test for all posts. It will consist of 100 objective-type questions to be completed in 90 minutes. The subjects include General Awareness (40 marks), Mathematics (30 marks), and General Intelligence and Reasoning (30 marks). There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd for every incorrect answer. Marks from this stage will be normalized to shortlist candidates for the next stage.
2nd Stage: Computer Based Test (CBT)
Candidates who qualify the 1st Stage CBT will appear for the 2nd Stage CBT. The pattern for this stage is 120 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. The sections are General Awareness (50 marks), Mathematics (35 marks), and General Intelligence and Reasoning (35 marks). Similar to the first stage, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd for wrong answers. The merit list will be prepared based on the performance in this stage.
3rd Stage: Skill Test
Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): This is mandatory for candidates who have applied for the posts of Station Master and Traffic Assistant. Candidates need to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery to qualify. The final merit list will have 70% weightage from 2nd Stage CBT marks and 30% from CBAT marks.
Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST): This is required for posts like Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Senior Clerk cum Typist. It is qualifying in nature. Candidates must be able to type 30 words per minute (WPM) in English or 25 WPM in Hindi.
